Balanced nutrition

Some teenagers think that having a balanced  nutrition is stop eating and that is incorrect because balanced nutrition  is something that contains different kinds of foods in certain quantities and proportions so that the requirement for calories, proteins, minerals, vitamins and alternative nutrients is adequate and a small provision is reserved for your body to stay healthy . 

A balanced nutrition gives your body the nutrients it needs to function correctly. To get the nutrition you need, most of your daily calories should come from:

  • fresh fruits
  • fresh vegetables
  • whole grains
  • legumes
  • nuts
  • lean proteins

Here are some tips about how to have a balanced nutrition 

  • eat at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables every day (see 5 A Day)
  • base meals on higher fibre starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta
  • have some dairy or dairy alternatives (such as soya drinks)
  • eat some beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other protein
  • choose unsaturated oils and spreads, and eat them in small amounts
  • drink plenty of fluids (at least 6 to 8 glasses a day)
